Profile
  • Our group is investigating regulatory pathways in the immune system that might explain how a westernised lifestyle with low levels of infection could have resulted in the increased incidence of asthma and allergic disease. Our research is focussed on the development of T cell subsets, which are central in regulating the immune system’s response to allergens in asthma. We are currently investigating the balance between Th17 and regulatory T cells, which promote or inhibit airway inflammation respectively. Our aim is to improve understanding of T cell subset regulation in acute and chronic lung inflammation. Ultimately we hope to develop new vaccines for immunotherapy of allergy and asthma without the need for continuous drug treatment, or for prevention of respiratory infections.
