Profile
  • The main focus of my work to date has been in discovering novel biological mechanisms that control the generation and function of T lymphocytes, which are the key effector cells of adaptive immune responses. Insight into the regulation of these responses is critical in order to design rational treatments for human disease where under- or over-activation of adaptive immunity is pathological. The spectrum of human disease where this occurs is wide and includes autoimmunity, infectious disease, malignancy and transplantation. Translation of basic cell biology into representative animal models and the use of primary human cells whenever possible will hopefully allow identification of powerful targets for the treatment of human disease. The clinical orientation of my work has been towards inflammatory renal disease and transplantation, which complements my medical caseload and should enable rapid translation of scientific discovery into direct patient care.
