Profile
James Pease is a Reader in Leukocyte Biology, within the Leukocyte Biology Section of the National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College London. He has served as a member of the MRC College of Experts and is currently an Associate Editor of the Journal of Innate Immunity. His research interests concern the biology of leukocyte chemoattractants and their G protein-coupled receptors with which he first became acquainted with as a PhD student. Since then his work has focussed predominantly upon chemokines and their receptors which orchestrate several important biological processes, notably leukocyte trafficking which may act as an amplifier of inappropriate inflammation in asthma. Consequently, chemokine receptors present themselves as excellent targets for the development of therapeutic antagonists. Current research in the laboratory is directed at obtaining a greater understanding of how chemoattractant receptors interact with their ligands, the nature and consequences of the ensuing signaling pathways and the molecular mechanisms that regulate receptor expression.
James has published more than 50 peer reviewed papers and several book chapters and invited reviews; he has also supervised or co-supervised over 10 PhD students. Outside of the laboratory, James’ hobbies include reading, fishing, gardening and being bossed around by his six-year old daughter.
