Our Research

Research within the Centre focuses on understanding the underlying causes of allergies and asthma so that new treatments and approaches to prevention can be developed.

The Asthma UK Centre supports world-class research scientists and clinicians based at King's College London and Imperial College London and their associated hospitals. The Centre's Director, Professor Sebastian Johnston at Imperial College London, and Deputy Director, Professor Catherine Hawrylowicz at King's College London, lead the research activities.

The Centre's research sits within four key themes of work:

Underlying mechanisms of asthma

Environment, risk factors and triggers of asthma attacks

Improving treatment options

Primary prevention of asthma
