One of the key aims of the Centre is to foster and develop the next generation of researchers and research leaders in asthma and allergy.
The Centre is committed to looking after its most valuable assets, its researchers, staff and students. Only through their success in undertaking and publishing leading research, developing extensive networks, securing funding, and developing the skills to set up their own research programmes, will the Centre’s goals be realised.
In order to maximise their opportunities and chances of attracting funding, it is vital that researchers are able to develop their profile, networks, and transferable skills base. Whether they are a new student just starting, a research assistant or postdoctoral fellow, or an established investigator, we recognise the need for them to enhance their professional development and aim to provide the best environment in order to maximise their personal and career opportunities.
Central to this aim is a focus on providing opportunities for self development by our staff and students. To make the most of these opportunities, researchers need to identify their own needs, and be prepared to ask for help, training and advice, when these are needed. We provide a comprehensive programme of support for research staff at all stages of an academic career. From recruitment onwards, it is an aim of the Centre that all staff will feel that they are valued, supported, and developed, whatever their level.
The Centre‘s students are supported by a dedicated Training Programme Committee. This group provides a programme of tailored bespoke training to the Centre’s PhD Cohort.
The programme includes an annual Postgraduate Research meeting, designed to highlight the extent and diversity of research undertaken by the Centre’s students, as well as providing a forum for wider discussion of the issues around pursuing a scientific career.
